Materials Guide
Here's what goes into our fixtures, so you know what you're getting and how to take care of it.
Natural Alabaster
Alabaster is a calcium sulfate mineral. It's softer than marble and naturally translucent, which is why it works well as a light shade. When lit, it gives off a warm, diffused glow and shows organic veining patterns. Color ranges from white to honey depending on the stone's mineral content.
Care: Wipe with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth. Don't use chemicals or abrasives. Alabaster is porous, so avoid prolonged contact with water.
Brass
Solid brass or brass-plated steel, depending on the fixture. Brass has a warm gold tone and is corrosion-resistant. Over time, uncoated brass develops a natural patina; lacquered brass maintains its original finish longer.
Care: Dust regularly. For lacquered brass, a soft dry cloth is sufficient. For unlacquered brass, use a brass-specific cleaner if you want to maintain the shine.
Iron
Used in fixtures with matte black or dark finishes. Iron frames are typically powder-coated for durability and rust resistance.
Care: Wipe with a dry cloth. The powder coating protects against most damage, but avoid scratching the surface.
Stainless Steel
Used in contemporary designs, typically with chrome or brushed finishes. Stainless steel is durable and resistant to corrosion.
Care: Clean with a soft cloth and mild soap if needed. Dry thoroughly to avoid water spots.
K9 Crystal
K9 is a type of optical glass with high clarity and good light refraction. It's the standard material used in quality crystal lighting. It's heavier than regular glass and produces more rainbow light dispersion.
Care: Dust with a lint-free cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth (not directly on the crystal).
